Dr. Dre Reveals Shocking Health Scare: Three Strokes During Brain Aneurysm Hospitalization

Renowned hip-hop icon and music producer Dr. Dre recently opened up about a harrowing health ordeal, revealing that he endured three strokes while hospitalized for a brain aneurysm three years ago. Speaking candidly on SiriusXM’s “This Life of Mine with James Corden,” the 59-year-old artist, whose real name is Andre Young, recounted the alarming escalation of his condition following his admission to the hospital due to severe pain behind his right ear.

“Next thing you know, I’m blacking out. I’m in and out of consciousness and I ended up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks,” Dre shared during the interview, reflecting on the gravity of the situation. He described hearing doctors express sentiments like, “You don’t know how lucky you are,” underscoring the severity of his medical crisis.

Dre, an original member of the groundbreaking rap group N.W.A. and a prolific music producer and entrepreneur, has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of hip-hop. His extensive portfolio includes collaborating with iconic artists such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, The Game, and Kendrick Lamar.

During his hospitalization, Dre disclosed that he experienced three strokes, a revelation that came as a shock to him given his commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Despite his dedication to fitness, including weightlifting and running, he was informed by medical professionals that he also had high blood pressure, a condition with hereditary origins.

Reflecting on the profound impact of his health scare, Dre expressed gratitude for the gift of life. “When you go through that situation, it’s crazy especially when I was on my way home from the hospital because possibly, that couldn’t have happened,” he shared, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of such medical emergencies.

In 2021, Dre was hospitalized for a brain aneurysm at a Los Angeles area hospital, as confirmed by his lawyer to NBC News. Taking to Instagram on January 5, 2021, Dre thanked his family, friends, and fans for their support, assuring them of his recovery and the exceptional care he received from his medical team.

Despite the challenges he faced, Dre’s resilience and enduring impact on the music industry are undeniable. His contributions have earned him multiple Grammy Awards, and he is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a testament to his indelible legacy and enduring influence in hip-hop culture.
