Donald Trump emerges victorious in the New Hampshire Republican primary; Nikki Haley pledges to continue the fight.

In the New Hampshire Republican primary, Donald Trump secured a victory over Indian-American politician Nikki Haley, solidifying his path toward the party’s presidential nomination. This win positions him for a potential showdown with President Joe Biden in the November 5 election.

With 75% of the votes tallied, 77-year-old Trump held a lead of 55% to 44%. Despite only two states having completed their voting, Tuesday’s primary win reaffirmed Trump’s control over the Republican Party. Last week, the former president achieved a resounding triumph in Iowa’s caucuses. Notably, Trump’s success is noteworthy as he confronts 91 criminal charges, including allegations linked to efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

However, Nikki Haley, 52, the former governor of South Carolina and former United Nations ambassador, expressed her determination to continue the battle. In a spirited address to her supporters on Tuesday night, she raised concerns about the former president’s mental acuity and cautioned fellow Republicans that endorsing Trump for re-nomination would result in the party’s defeat.

Following the election results, Nikki Haley, 52, the former governor of South Carolina and ex-United Nations ambassador, extended congratulations to Trump, acknowledging that he had “earned it.” Despite Trump’s victory, Haley emphasized that the race was far from over, pointing to the numerous states yet to vote.

Expressing her resilience, Haley, Trump’s last remaining rival in the Republican nomination race, highlighted her journey from polling at two percent when there were 14 candidates to be the last one standing alongside Donald Trump. She asserted that a Trump nomination would result in a win for Biden and a Kamala Harris presidency.

Looking ahead, Haley expressed optimism about her prospects in the upcoming South Carolina primaries on March 5, hoping for a strong showing that could propel her through the Super Tuesday contests. Trump, on the other hand, dismissed her performance, calling her “delusional” and questioning her victory-like speech.

In response to Trump’s criticism, Team Haley swiftly reacted, characterizing his speech as a “furious and rumbling rant.” Notably, Trump achieved a historic feat as the first non-incumbent Republican presidential candidate to win both the Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire primary consecutively. The Trump campaign urged Haley to withdraw from the race, asserting that she lacked a viable path to victory and that her continued candidacy would only benefit the Harris-Biden campaign.

On the Democratic side, President Biden, 81, secured an easy victory, even though his name was absent from the ballot, as the party opted to commence its primaries in South Carolina next month. The Biden campaign dismissed Haley’s prospects and shifted its focus to Trump, asserting that he had effectively secured the GOP nomination, signaling the dominance of the MAGA movement within the Republican Party.

As we progress towards November 2024, a growing certainty emerges: Donald Trump is on a direct path to a general election showdown, where he will go head-to-head with the only individual who has previously defeated him at the ballot box—Joe Biden,” she stated.
