Disney Plans Major Expansion of California Theme Parks in Anaheim

Disney is eyeing a significant expansion of its California theme parks in Anaheim over the next four decades, pending approval from local officials. This proposed expansion wouldn’t increase Disney’s current footprint but would make more efficient use of existing space, potentially transforming a sizable parking lot into new attractions while moving parking facilities to a multistory structure. The aim is to craft immersive experiences for visitors, taking inspiration from beloved Disney tales such as “Frozen” and “Zootopia.”

Rachel Alde, Disney’s senior vice president of global development and finance, is keen on delving into untold stories like “Wakanda” and “Coco” within the expanded resort. With plans to invest a minimum of $1.9 billion in theme park enhancements, lodging, entertainment, and related amenities over the next ten years, Disney is gearing up for a significant development push.
