Danny Masterson, known for his role in “That 70s Show,” has been relocated to a minimum-security prison after spending less than a month in a maximum-security facility. State records reveal that Masterson was transferred to California’s Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo to serve his 30-year sentence for two counts of forcible rape dating back to 2001 and 2003. Despite a third count made by a long-term girlfriend, the jury could not decide Masterson’s trial.
Men’s Colony, a medium-and-minimum-security facility in California, became Masterson’s new place of incarceration due to concerns about his well-being, as reported by Deadline. Previously, Masterson, 47, had been sent to Corcoran State Prison, the same facility where Charles Manson was held for two decades. At Corcoran, Masterson was placed in the Level 4 housing unit, the highest security tier, indicating a need for extra protection or supervision.
Later, in December, Masterson was transferred to North Kern State Prison in Delano. He is expected to be eligible for parole in 2042 when he turns 66. At North Kern, he was assigned to privilege group U, which restricts family visits, and personal property access, and limits entertainment privileges. Masterson’s communication was also limited to one phone call per month.
Recently, Masterson’s request for bail pending appeal was denied by the judge, citing concerns that he might flee without any ties due to his divorce from his wife of 12 years, Bijou Phillips. Phillips filed for divorce just days after Masterson’s conviction and was granted legal and physical custody of their daughter, Fianna, aged nine.
Masterson’s conviction stemmed from charges brought by three women, all members of the Church of Scientology, like Masterson himself. Although he was found guilty on two counts of rape in May, the jury was unable to decide on a third count. This marked Masterson’s second trial over charges related to rapes allegedly committed in his Hollywood Hills home in the early 2000s.
Ultimately, Masterson’s transfer to a minimum-security facility underscores the ongoing legal saga surrounding his conviction and the gravity of the allegations against him.
