Daniel Billings Faces Court for Alleged Murder of Molly Ticehurst in Forbes

In a tragic incident in western New South Wales, a man has been charged with the murder of a young woman, who was also the victim of several prior violent offenses allegedly committed by the accused.

The accused, Daniel Billings, appeared in court following the death of Molly Ticehurst, a 28-year-old childcare worker and mother, whose body was discovered in a Forbes residence. Billings, 29, was apprehended in Fifield, north of Condobolin, after the incident.

Court proceedings revealed that Billings was out on bail for charges including rape, stalking, intimidation, and cruelty against animals, all allegedly perpetrated against Ticehurst. Shockingly, these offenses occurred in December of the previous year.

Magistrate David Day highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that Billings was already facing serious charges related to Ticehurst when the alleged murder occurred.

Billings, who did not seek bail, remains in custody with the case adjourned until June 20.

The Forbes community is mourning the loss of Ticehurst, described as a beloved childhood educator who touched the lives of many children.

In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the unacceptable levels of violence against women in Australia, emphasizing that addressing this issue is a shared responsibility of government and society.

According to The Red Heart Campaign, Ticehurst’s death marked the 31st violent death of a woman or child in Australia this year.

Premier Chris Minns announced a review into the circumstances surrounding Ticehurst’s murder, stressing the need for the justice system to protect the community from individuals who pose a risk.
