Daniel Alves, the renowned footballer, found himself entangled in a web of fake news after being sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault in Barcelona. Reports circulated on X [formerly Twitter], suggesting that Alves had tragically taken his own life in his cell at the Brians 2 Penitentiary Center, also known as the “prison of the famous” in Spain. This false information propelled Alves to the top of trending topics on the platform.
Adding to the speculation, Alves’ Instagram profile, boasting 36 million followers, saw his usual photo replaced with a black circle, fueling rumors of mourning among his fans.
However, the rumors were promptly dispelled by Ney Alves, one of Daniel’s brothers, who denounced the speculations as baseless.
In a heartfelt response, Ney expressed his dismay at the cruelty of those spreading such rumors. He defended his brother, emphasizing the unfairness of the situation, and condemned the desire for Alves’ death. Ney’s outrage extended to those perpetuating the falsehoods, urging them to consider the impact on his aging parents.
“My father is over 70 years old. My mother is over 60. Do you even understand the concept of family?” Ney questioned, lamenting the lack of empathy from those behind the spread of false information. He ended with a plea for compassion, invoking God’s mercy upon those responsible for the distress caused.
