Cricket History Unfolds: Ashwin Becomes 14th Indian to Play 100th Test Match in Dharamsala

Indian cricket stalwart Ravichandran Ashwin marks a historic milestone as he steps onto the pitch for his 100th Test match at Dharamshala’s HPCA stadium. The 37-year-old spinner recently etched his name in the annals of cricketing history by surpassing Anil Kumble’s record, emerging as the fastest Indian bowler to claim 500 Test wickets.

Accompanied by his wife Prithi and daughters, Ashwin savored the significance of the moment as he addressed his fellow Indian teammates, presenting Devdutt Paddikal with his debut cap. In a touching gesture, India’s coach Rahul Dravid bestowed Ashwin with a special memento, a symbolic 100th Test cap, in the presence of the team and his family. As a tribute to his illustrious career, the veteran spinner received a guard of honor as he made his way onto the field for the commencement of the fifth Test match against England.

Ashwin Joins Elite 100-Test Club: Aiming for Milestone in Landmark Match

Ashwin now stands proudly among the esteemed group of cricketers who have represented India in 100 or more Test matches. This illustrious list includes legendary names such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and many more iconic figures who have left an indelible mark on Indian cricket history.

Debuting against the West Indies in 2011, the off-spinner quickly cemented his place in the Indian bowling lineup, becoming an indispensable asset. With a remarkable record of 507 wickets in 99 Tests, Ashwin boasts an impressive strike rate of 53.9 and an average of 26.5, highlighting his exceptional skill and consistency on the field.

As he gears up for his 100th Test, Ashwin has the opportunity to emulate the achievements of cricketing greats like Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Muttiah Muralitharan by securing a fifer. Notably, Ashwin’s maiden five-wicket haul came against the West Indies in his debut match, making it a remarkable milestone if he can replicate this feat in his 100th Test match.

Sachin Praise Players says it’s a historic day in Dharamshala

In a historic moment at Dharamsala, both Ravichandran Ashwin and England’s Jonny Bairstow mark their 100th Test appearances for their respective teams.

Former Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took to X to applaud their remarkable achievements, stating, “A historic day in Dharamsala as @ashwinravi99 and @jbairstow21 grace the international stage for the 100th time. Their unwavering dedication and passion for red-ball cricket shine through in this incredible milestone. Wishing them both an outstanding game ahead!”
