Missouri Democratic Representative Cori Bush revealed on Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Justice is examining her use of campaign funds. In response to threats to her safety, Bush stated that she utilized campaign funds for security services, emphasizing that no federal tax dollars were involved. The Justice Department, declining to comment, reportedly issued a grand jury subpoena to the Sergeant at Arms for documents related to the investigation.
The inquiry, as reported by Punchbowl News, is said to focus on Bush’s utilization of her Member Representation Allowance (MRA), funded by taxpayer dollars for official expenses. Bush, who represents Missouri’s 1st Congressional District, pledged full cooperation with the Justice Department, the Federal Election Commission, and the U.S. House Committee on Ethics, all investigating the matter. She attributes the allegations to right-wing organizations, particularly regarding her husband’s role in the campaign, defending his hiring for security services.
