Kulwinder Kaur, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, has been suspended following an alleged incident in which she slapped newly elected BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport. The confrontation was reportedly triggered by a remark Ranaut made during the 2020 farmers’ protests.
In a video that has since gone viral, Kaur can be heard saying, “My mother was there,” in reference to Ranaut’s controversial statement alleging that women participating in the protests were paid ₹100 each to sit at the Delhi borders.
“Kangana kehti hai aurate 100-100 rupee mein baithi thi aurate farmer protest mein, yeh baithegi wahan pe? Meri maa baithi thi jab isne bayan diya tha (Kangana said the women were sitting in the farmers’ protests for ₹100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made that remark),” Kaur stated.
Kaur, who has now been suspended and faces a police case, admitted that she reacted to Ranaut’s comment “disrespecting farmers.”
The CISF, responsible for airport security, has initiated a court of inquiry into the incident. Reports indicate that Kaur comes from a family of farmers.
Background of the Incident
Kulwinder Kaur joined the CISF in 2009 and has been part of the aviation security group at Chandigarh airport since 2021. Until now, she has had no vigilance inquiries or punishments against her. Her husband is also posted at the same airport.
Following the incident, Kangana Ranaut expressed her concerns over what she described as increasing “terrorism and extremism” in Punjab. She confirmed the details of the incident, stating, “As soon as I came out after the security check, the lady in the second cabin, a CISF security staff, came from the side, hit me on my face, and started abusing me. When I asked her why she did so, she said that she supports farmers’ protest.”
During the height of the farmers’ protests against the three farm laws in 2020, Ranaut had posted a tweet about an elderly woman seen at the protests, claiming she was “available for ₹100.” The tweet was later deleted following public outrage.
Reactions and Official Responses
National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma called for strict action against Kaur. Sharma highlighted the seriousness of the matter, emphasizing that security personnel breaching their duty at the airport is unacceptable.
“Strict action should be taken against the lady CISF personnel. We at @NCWIndia have taken up this matter with @CISFHQrs,” Sharma stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The CISF’s ongoing investigation will determine the full extent of the incident and appropriate measures to be taken.
