Chlöe Swarbrick Elected Co-leader of New Zealand’s Green Party

In a significant development for New Zealand’s political landscape, the Green Party has elected Chlöe Swarbrick, the Member of Parliament for Auckland Central, as its new Co-leader alongside Marama Davidson.

Expressing gratitude to Green Party members nationwide for their trust and support, Chlöe Swarbrick emphasized the collective capacity to drive positive change. She reiterated the Greens’ vision for Aotearoa, envisioning a nation where everyone enjoys a decent standard of living, and the natural environment is safeguarded in accordance with te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Highlighting concerns over the recent policies implemented by the government, Swarbrick urged against complacency and emphasized the importance of remaining engaged and motivated. She called out the government’s disregard for the well-being of both people and the planet, urging citizens not to succumb to disillusionment.

Swarbrick underlined the Green Party’s commitment to advocating for policies that prioritize climate action, income guarantees, environmental protection, public transport, and equitable public services. She stressed the necessity of a fair tax system to achieve these goals.

In tandem with Swarbrick’s appointment, Marama Davidson expressed enthusiasm about having her as a co-leader in the fight against the government’s agenda. Davidson praised Swarbrick’s leadership qualities and her ability to mobilize communities for positive change.

James Shaw, outgoing co-leader, expressed his confidence in Swarbrick’s leadership abilities, citing her passion and belief in the power of grassroots activism.
