The Bears have shaken things up once again, this time involving their quarterback.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Pittsburgh is set to acquire QB Justin Fields from Chicago in a trade. Sources indicate that Chicago will receive a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft from Pittsburgh, which could potentially escalate to a fourth-round selection, pending certain conditions. The trade is pending a passing physical, as confirmed by both teams.
In a statement, Chicago’s general manager Ryan Poles expressed that they believe trading Justin to Pittsburgh at this juncture is in the best interest of both Fields and the Bears. Poles conveyed gratitude towards Fields for his dedication and leadership during his tenure in Chicago.
Fields, aged 25, showcased his skills by posting career highs in passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage during the 2023 season, along with notable contributions on the ground. Despite being selected 11th overall in the 2021 draft, Fields struggled to produce wins for the Bears, finishing with a 10-28 record as a starter. He leaves Chicago with significant statistical accomplishments, including over 6,000 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions, as well as impressive rushing statistics.
The Steelers, who have been active this offseason, have added Fields to their roster following the acquisition of Russell Wilson. With Wilson slated to start in Week 1, Fields is expected to serve as his understudy, benefiting from the experience of the Super Bowl champion quarterback.
Meanwhile, in Chicago, attention turns to the upcoming NFL Draft, with Caleb Williams emerging as a potential frontrunner for the No. 1 overall pick. The Bears have made notable offseason additions, including D’Andre Swift, Keenan Allen, and Gerald Everett, aiming to bolster their offensive arsenal. The appointment of Shane Waldron as the new offensive coordinator adds further intrigue to Chicago’s prospects for the 2024 season.
As the Steelers prepare for a new era with Wilson and Fields, the Bears embark on a fresh chapter, poised to make waves in the upcoming season after a series of significant offseason moves.
