Café Catastrophe: Five Hospitalized After Consuming Toxic Mouth Freshener in Gurugram

After consuming mouth freshener following their meal at a café in Gurugram on March 2nd, five individuals began vomiting blood and experienced a burning sensation in their mouths. Ankit Kumar, accompanied by his wife and friends, was at Laforestta Cafe in Gurugram’s Sector 90 when the distressing incident occurred. In a video captured by Mr. Kumar inside the restaurant, his companions, including his wife, can be seen writhing in agony. One individual even vomits on the restaurant floor, while another attempts to soothe the burning sensation by applying ice to her mouth.

Expressing concern, Mr. Kumar stated, “We don’t know what they have mixed (in the mouth freshener). Everyone here is vomiting. They have cuts on their tongues. Their mouths are burning. Don’t know what type of acid they have given us.” He promptly urged others in the café to contact the police.

In his formal complaint to the authorities, Mr. Kumar revealed, “I showed the packet of the mouth freshener to a doctor, who said it was dry ice. According to the doctor, it is an acid which can lead to death.”

Reports indicate that the victims initially experienced a burning sensation in their mouths, followed by vomiting, some of which included blood. Despite attempting to rinse their mouths with water, the discomfort persisted.

The five affected individuals have been admitted to the hospital, with two reported to be in critical condition.

In response to the victims’ grievances, the police have initiated legal action against the owner of the restaurant.
