E. Jean Carroll, who recently secured an $83 million victory in her defamation trial against Donald Trump, shared her plans for the substantial sum in a recent interview with Good Morning America. The jury granted Carroll $18.3 million in compensatory damages and an additional $65 million in punitive retribution, with specific amounts allocated for a reputational repair campaign and emotional harm caused by Trump’s 2019 statements against her.
In her first public remarks following the trial, Carroll expressed joy over the verdict, describing it as a gratifying moment. When asked about her intentions for the awarded millions, she revealed her plan to allocate the funds towards causes that Donald Trump dislikes. Carroll hinted at the possibility of contributing to a fund supporting women who have alleged sexual assault by Trump.
In response to the verdict, Trump, utilizing his Truth Social platform, criticized the decision as “absolutely ridiculous” and declared his intention to file an appeal. His lawyer, Alina Habba, raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest involving Judge Lewis Kaplan, referencing a New York Post article. Judge Kaplan’s chambers did not immediately respond to inquiries.
Despite Trump’s adversarial reaction, Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, expressed confidence in collecting the awarded funds. Kaplan acknowledged that the process might not be immediate but highlighted Trump’s substantial real estate holdings, indicating their intent to enforce the judgment.
