Breaking: Matilda’s Epic World Cup Journey Honored with Jaw-Dropping Statue – You Won’t Believe the Details

“Matildas to be Honored with Permanent Statue at Suncorp Stadium”

Australia’s beloved Matildas, who captured the nation’s hearts during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, are set to be immortalized with a permanent bronze statue at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium by the year’s end.

The team’s remarkable journey at the World Cup, marked by gripping matches and unforgettable moments, resonated deeply with Australians nationwide. From rallying behind injured star Sam Kerr to celebrating every save by goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, the Matildas left an indelible mark on the country’s sporting landscape.

Sport Minister Michael Healy hailed the statue as a symbol of inspiration for future generations, reflecting on the euphoria of the team’s quarter-final victory over France. Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the Matildas’ role in encouraging women and girls to embrace organized sports.

Commissioned to Brisbane-based company Urban Art Projects (UAP), the statue, measuring approximately 6 meters wide and 2.5 meters tall, will capture an iconic moment of celebration from the tournament. Drawing on their 30 years of experience, UAP plans to employ a blend of robotic and handcrafted techniques to ensure the players’ likenesses are faithfully represented in bronze.

UAP associate Paul Gurney expressed the company’s pride in delivering this legacy of the Matildas’ inspiring campaign, highlighting Brisbane and Queensland’s global recognition during the Women’s World Cup. The statue’s creation will be a testament to the team’s enduring impact and the spirit of unity they fostered across the nation.

Former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had initially announced plans for the statue following the team’s outstanding success in 2023, cementing the Matildas’ place in Australian sporting history.
