On Sunday afternoon, chaos erupted within the confines of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, as a woman armed with a long gun unleashed a barrage of gunfire. The incident, which occurred just before the scheduled 2 p.m. Spanish language service, sent shockwaves through the congregation and the surrounding community.
The assailant described as a woman between the ages of 30 and 35, entered the church alongside a 5-year-old boy, whom she critically wounded during the ensuing shootout with off-duty police officers. Additionally, a 57-year-old man, unrelated to the altercation, sustained injuries but is reported to be in stable condition.
Swift action from the off-duty officers led to the suspect being fatally shot, averting further tragedy within the megachurch. Despite the suspect’s claim of possessing a bomb, authorities found no explosives on the premises.
