Argentine President Javier Milei is scheduled to meet Elon Musk at Tesla Inc.’s factory in Austin on Saturday, as part of a week-long international trip, announced by the government on Tuesday.
Milei, who assumed office on December 10, has engaged in friendly exchanges with Musk over several months, particularly on Musk’s X platform. Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has reciprocated by sharing Milei’s speech from the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, praising it as a “good explanation of what makes countries more or less prosperous.”
In return, Milei has expressed admiration for Musk, foreseeing his significant role in Argentina’s transition away from decades of populism. Milei’s recent regulatory changes facilitated the entry of Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service into Argentina.
Prior to his meeting with Musk, Milei will attend a Jewish ceremony in Miami to receive an honor for his support of Israel, alongside his sister and presidential adviser, Karina Milei. Milei’s commitment to Israel has been evident since his election, marked by visits to Jewish sites and his choice of Israel for his first official trip abroad.
During his trip, Milei will also meet with Inter-American Development Bank President Ilan Goldfajn and deliver a speech at Florida International University. Concluding his journey, he will travel to Copenhagen to meet with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, followed by participating in a ceremony to commemorate Argentina’s acquisition of a fleet of F-16 fighter jets on April 16.
