In a landmark announcement at this week’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple revealed the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its upcoming iOS 18. The partnership, which focuses on exposure and integration rather than financial exchange, marks a significant step for both companies.
According to a Bloomberg report, neither Apple nor OpenAI will exchange money for this collaboration. The deal, aimed at enhancing ChatGPT’s exposure within Apple’s ecosystem, is not expected to generate significant revenue for either company initially. Instead, the focus is on embedding ChatGPT into Siri and other new writing tools, allowing OpenAI to reach millions of users.
Apple sees this promotional opportunity as highly valuable, possibly even more so than direct financial compensation. Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that this exposure could significantly boost OpenAI’s technology.
For Apple users, the integration of ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia will be available for free but as an optional feature. Users subscribing to ChatGPT Plus will gain access to additional features by logging into their accounts.
Looking ahead, Apple plans to establish revenue-sharing agreements with AI companies, suggesting a future where AI integration could become a profitable venture for all parties involved.
This partnership represents a strategic move for both Apple and OpenAI, highlighting the growing importance of AI in enhancing user experience across digital platforms.
