Angel Reese Reflects on WNBA Draft Experience and Addresses Past Rumors with Caitlin Clark

Angel Reese made it evident that her competitive spirit stays on the court. In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the former Louisiana State University star forward reflected on her time with fellow 2024 WNBA draft prospects leading up to Monday night’s draft at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. Amidst sharing the fun she had with her peers, Reese also seemed to address rumors of past animosity, notably with former Iowa Hawkeyes standout Caitlin Clark.

“The highlight of the NYC weekend was bonding with all the girls after years of fierce competition!!” she expressed. “Everyone brought great energy, showing our shared competitive nature ON THE COURT!!” She emphasized, “NOTHING IS PERSONAL!!!”

Reese and Clark were spotted together at pre-draft events in New York City, including posing for photos at the Empire State Building alongside other draft prospects like Cameron Brink, Dyaisha Fair, Marquesha Davis, and Aaliyah Edwards. They even took a selfie together. Reese later shared a TikTok featuring her and Brink dancing, with Clark relaxing in the background.

The duo also posed for photos at Monday’s draft event, where Reese was drafted 7th by the Chicago Sky, while Clark claimed the top spot with the Indiana Fever. Despite Reese facing criticism for her on-court behavior, including the “you can’t see me” hand gesture directed at Clark during last year’s NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball championship, both players have stressed that their competitiveness on the court doesn’t reflect personal animosity.

Critics have pointed out a double standard in how Reese, a Black athlete, is judged compared to her white counterparts, like Clark, who faced less backlash for similar actions. Reese and Clark have consistently stated their respect for each other, with Reese even congratulating Clark on her record-breaking achievements in the past.
