Akasa Air’s Water-Saving Initiative Marks World Water Day 2024 Amid Global Conservation Efforts

Akasa Air announced on X (formerly Twitter) its remarkable conservation effort, foregoing the customary water cannon salutes during fleet and new destination inaugurations, which has resulted in saving an impressive 336,000 liters of water to date. This initiative aligns with the global observance of World Water Day, dedicated to raising awareness about the significance of fresh water and advocating for sustainable water management practices.

Against the backdrop of severe water crises in cities like Bengaluru, where borewells and lakes are drying up, Akasa’s commitment to water conservation takes on added importance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed this sentiment on X, emphasizing the critical role of safeguarding water resources and promoting sustainable water management.

Highlighting the broader global context, the United Nations (UN) emphasized that despite progress, 2.2 billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water, underscoring the urgency of addressing water-related challenges. The theme for World Water Day 2024, “Water for Peace,” underscores the essential role of water in fostering peace and stability, urging collective action towards equitable and cooperative water resource management.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need for international cooperation, noting that while 153 countries share water resources, only 24 have signed comprehensive cooperation agreements. As the world commemorates World Water Day, there is a collective call to prioritize water conservation efforts and work towards a more sustainable and peaceful future.
