A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting actor Steve Buscemi on a street in New York City earlier this month, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on May 8th around noon as Buscemi was walking down the street. According to the NYPD, he was punched in the face, resulting in bruising, swelling, and bleeding around his left eye.
Authorities identified Clifton Williams as a suspect earlier in the week. He was apprehended Friday afternoon in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood following a report of a man yelling at passersby. Upon arriving at the scene, officers recognized Williams as the suspect wanted in connection with Buscemi’s assault.
A spokesperson for Buscemi, the 66-year-old star known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire,” “Reservoir Dogs,” and “Fargo,” confirmed that he is doing well and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.
Buscemi, a Brooklyn native, has garnered acclaim for his performances in both film and television, earning an Emmy award along with eight nominations for his work on various TV projects.
The incident has drawn attention to the safety and security concerns faced by public figures, even as they go about their daily lives in bustling urban environments.
