Actor Steve Buscemi was reportedly assaulted while walking in midtown Manhattan. His publicist confirmed the incident, describing him as “another victim of a random act of violence in the city.” Fortunately, Buscemi, a 66-year-old native New Yorker, is okay, though saddened by the incident and concerned for others who have experienced similar violence while walking the streets of New York.
According to reports, the assault occurred around 11:50 a.m. on May 8th in the Kips Bay neighborhood. A stranger approached Buscemi and punched him in the face before fleeing the scene. As a result, Buscemi’s face and left eye swelled, and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
The attacker, described as wearing a baseball cap, blue T-shirt, black pants, and white sneakers, remains at large. The New York Police Department has yet to comment on the incident.
This assault follows another recent attack on Buscemi’s Boardwalk Empire co-star, Michael Stuhlbarg, who was struck with a rock in Manhattan on March 31st. The perpetrator, Xavier Israel, was apprehended by the NYPD after the attack on Stuhlbarg.
