You Won’t Believe What Marjorie Taylor Greene Just Called the Peaceful Transfer of Power

During a House Republican press conference, the Republican Congresswoman from Georgia defended the protests for “election integrity” on January 6th, 2021, despite the violent nature of the events and the absence of evidence of election fraud, as demonstrated by over 60 unsuccessful court cases brought by then-President Donald Trump. However, she then shifted the blame towards the security measures implemented after the Capitol riots, suggesting that the deployment of the National Guard for the peaceful transfer of power fourteen days later constituted the true insurrection

The American people, who fund elections through their tax dollars, have every right to be concerned about election integrity and the outcomes of their elections. Their protests in Washington were an expression of this right. Yet, you all label it as an insurrection. But when Joe Biden was inaugurated and the Capitol complex was heavily guarded by 30,000 National Guard troops, none of you referred to that as an insurrection. Your silence speaks volumes.

However, it’s important to note that the heightened security measures on January 20th were a direct response to the violent breach of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6th, who sought to disrupt the certification of the Electoral College results under the pretense of “Stop the Steal,” despite no credible evidence of election fraud. In sociological terms, this narrative presented by the Congresswoman is a twisted form of “blaming the victim.” The Capitol became a victim of an unruly and violent mob on January 6th, necessitating the justified decision to bolster security measures on January 20th.
