Woolworths’ Anzac Day Mudcake Mishap Sparks Social Media Frenzy

Recently, a shopper’s inadvertent Anzac Day message mishap at Woolworths sparked a social media storm, capturing attention far and wide. The shopper shared an image of a chocolate mud cake from the beloved supermarket chain adorned with a message intended to commemorate Anzac Day. However, instead of the traditional “Lest we forget,” the cake displayed the slightly off-kilter phrase “Let we forget.”

The image quickly gained traction on Reddit, where users couldn’t resist commenting on the cake’s unconventional message. One commenter quipped, “Nothing celebrates the Anzacs like a cheap mud cake from Woolies.” Another questioned the necessity of buying a cake for Anzac Day, stating, “It’s not a party.” A third user chimed in, criticizing the entire concept as tacky, even without the typo.

Despite the humorous tone of some comments, there were also those who took a more serious stance. One user accused Woolworths of trying to profit off the solemn occasion, calling the incident “really poor behavior” on the part of the supermarket giant. However, another user speculated that the mistake may have been the result of a well-intentioned but misguided staff member.

Meanwhile, amidst the online chatter, Woolworths emphasized its ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and their families through its partnership with the RSL’s annual ANZAC Appeal. Over the past decade, Woolworths has raised more than $13 million for the cause, contributing to vital programs aimed at supporting veterans’ health, well-being, and financial welfare.

In response to the incident, Sue Cattermole, CEO of RSL Victoria, underscored the significance of the enduring partnership between RSL and Woolworths, highlighting the tangible support provided to the veteran community nationwide over the years.
