In a recent podcast interview released on Friday, Attorney Roberta Kaplan, known for representing E. Jean Carroll against Donald Trump, shared anecdotes from a contentious deposition with the former president. Kaplan recounted moments of Trump’s frustration during the proceedings, including his anger over his lawyers providing lunch and an instance where he used a vulgar term.
During the podcast episode of “George Conway Explains it All (to Sarah Longwell),” Kaplan described a deposition at Mar-a-Lago where Trump vehemently opposed taking a lunch break, insisting on continuous work. When Kaplan informed him that his attorneys had graciously offered to provide lunch, Trump reportedly reacted angrily, throwing a pile of documents across the table and expressing his displeasure towards his lawyer, Alina Habba.
After lunch, Trump inquired about Kaplan’s meal, jokingly claiming he had instructed his team to make her bad sandwiches. Towards the end of the deposition, when the conversation went “off the record,” Trump allegedly used a derogatory slang term, telling Kaplan, “See you next Tuesday,” which she later discovered was an insult.
Reflecting on the incident, Kaplan mentioned she was unaware of the slang’s meaning during the deposition and expressed relief that she didn’t react angrily when informed later. Requests for comment from Trump and Habba’s aide were not immediately returned.
Kaplan recently secured a victory for E. Jean Carroll, with a jury awarding over $83 million in defamation damages against Trump in her case.
