Following Donald Trump’s recent remarks targeting columnist E. Jean Carroll calls for her to pursue a third defamation lawsuit against him have resurfaced.
In January, Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $83.3 million for comments made after she accused him of raping her in a New York City luxury department store. This ruling came after a separate jury awarded Carroll $5 million for sexual assault and defamation in May of last year. Trump posted a $92-million bond last month in connection with Carroll’s defamation cases to secure funds for potential awards if his attacks survive appeals.
Despite mounting legal challenges, Trump persists in his assaults on Carroll and others involved in ongoing cases against him. Facing criminal cases and a $454-million civil fraud penalty, Trump continues to face scrutiny. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump launched another verbal attack on Carroll, prompting social media users to urge her to pursue further legal action.
Author Majid M. Padellan proposed that if Trump persists in defaming Carroll, she should sue until his assets become hers. Keith Olbermann and singer-songwriter Ricky Davila echoed these sentiments, expressing support for Carroll pursuing legal action each time Trump defames her.
Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, has indicated that her client may indeed file another defamation suit against Trump. Legal experts affirm that there is no limit to the number of defamation suits Carroll can bring against Trump, as each denial by Trump of the assault allegation exposes him to potential claims for defamation.
Efforts to reach Kaplan and Trump’s legal representation for comment are ongoing.
