In a thrilling encounter at the Eden Gardens, Sunrisers Hyderabad staged a remarkable comeback against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 clash. Heinrich Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed orchestrated a stunning revival, propelling SRH back into contention with a blistering partnership of 58 runs in just 16 balls, notably dominating the 18th and 19th overs. However, despite their valiant effort, SRH fell short by four runs in their pursuit of 209, courtesy of a disciplined final over from KKR’s Harshit Rana, who crucially dismissed Klaasen and Shahbaz, conceding a mere two runs.
The SRH chase commenced promisingly with openers Mayank Agarwal and impact substitute Abhishek Sharma forging a solid 60-run partnership, featuring eight boundaries and three sixes. Nevertheless, the momentum shifted as Harshit Rana and Andre Russell struck crucial blows, reducing SRH to 71 for two.
Earlier, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ innings witnessed a sensational start from Phil Salt, who launched an assault with three consecutive sixes in the second over. Despite a subsequent collapse, Ramandeep Singh’s aggressive batting revived KKR’s innings, as he smashed 35 runs off just 17 balls in a vital partnership with Salt. Andre Russell then took center stage, unleashing a flurry of seven sixes and three fours to finish unbeaten on 64 off 25 balls, in tandem with Rinku Singh’s 23 off 15 balls, as the pair orchestrated an 81-run stand in just 33 deliveries.
