There’s fresh hope in the decade-long mystery surrounding the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Ocean Infinity, a company based in Texas, claims to possess scientific evidence pinpointing the plane’s final location on the ocean floor. They’re proposing a new search operation with a “no-find, no-fee” arrangement.
Malaysia’s Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, expressed strong confidence in the proposal’s approval by the Malaysian government. The flight, a Boeing 777 carrying 239 passengers, vanished after taking off from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014. Despite extensive multinational search efforts, the plane remained elusive, leading Malaysia to declare the incident an accident with no survivors.
For relatives like Intan Maizura Othaman, whose husband was a steward on the flight, the closure has been elusive. They continue to yearn for answers. Malaysia’s Transport Minister has extended an invitation to Ocean Infinity to present their evidence, vowing to push for a new search if it proves credible.
Jacquita Gomes, who lost her husband Patrick in the tragedy, feels a renewed sense of hope. “I’m on top of the world,” she said. “It is what we wanted to hear and we hoped for that for a very long time.”
