As Prince William prepares for his eventual ascension to the British throne amidst King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, discussions are underway at the palace regarding potential new roles for Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla in Investiture ceremonies.
With Prince Charles aiming to streamline the monarchy and the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from royal duties, there’s a shortage of blood royals available to present awards. With only Prince Charles and Princess Anne remaining, speculation arises that Kate and Camilla may be considered for this honor.
A source informed the Daily Mail, “Queen Camilla has proven herself to be a dedicated and hard-working consort to the King, and who wouldn’t be honored to receive an award from the Princess of Wales?” There’s a sense that both women have earned this recognition, which could be met with widespread approval.
Each year, around 30 investiture ceremonies occur, with over 2,600 honorees receiving their awards from a member of the Royal Family at various locations, including Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, as well as in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Regarding the discussions, an insider shared, “There were initial talks during the Jubilee year about expanding the number of senior royals participating in investitures… that’s when they first considered including Camilla and Catherine.”
Another voice added, “In my view, such ceremonies should be conducted by members of the Royal Family directly in line of succession.”
