The commemorative coin showcases a portrait of Michael adorned with his iconic sunglasses, alongside an inscription of the memorable refrain from his hit song “Faith.” Notably, the colors black and red, frequently associated with his career, are featured prominently on the coin’s design.

George Michael Entertainment expressed profound gratitude for the tribute from the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, stating that the singer would have been immensely proud and touched by such recognition from a national institution.

In a remarkable feat, the band’s classic track “Last Christmas” climbed to the number one spot on the UK singles chart in December, nearly four decades after its initial release.

Sandra Deiana, the talented designer behind the coin, aimed to capture Michael’s charismatic expression with intricate detail, particularly focusing on his iconic sunglasses.

This coin marks the latest addition to the Royal Mint’s esteemed Music Legends series, joining the ranks of other iconic artists like David Bowie, Elton John, and Queen.

Michael spent his formative years in Edgware, London, before relocating with his family to Radlett, Hertfordshire, during the 1970s. He was residing in Goring, Oxfordshire, at the time of his passing in 2016.

Acknowledging his significant connection to Bushey Meads School, the singer-songwriter is commemorated with a blue plaque in his honor.

Steve Stunt, representing the George Michael Appreciation Society of Bushey, expressed delight at the release of the collectible coin, emphasizing its significance as a cherished memento for fans and praising the Royal Mint’s acknowledgment of Michael’s legacy.
