3.8 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles San Bernardino County Near Ontario International Airport

On Thursday night, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook the San Bernardino County area, as reported by the United States Geological Survey at approximately 11:38 p.m.

The epicenter was situated about 2 miles southeast of Ontario, near the Ontario International Airport, with a depth of roughly 7.4 miles. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.

California experiences hundreds of earthquakes annually, with most being minor, though several register above 3.0 magnitude.

The California Department of Conservation notes that the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in the state measured 7.9 magnitude and occurred in Fort Tejon on January 9, 1857.
